wed 30 april

i was at the gym today. different location, and different time of the day.

the tv was set to TNT. and what was playing?

old episodes of Charmed.

it’s set here in San Francisco.

and the power of three is WAY better with Shannen Doherty as Prue Halliwell.

it was bug nite at work last night. we closed a little early, and had to pull everything off the shelves and wrap it all up. whatever. it wasn’t so bad.

i found myself finished at about 11:30pm.

so i went to Lush Lounge. i haven’t been there in probably a few months. (i suppose i could check my dodgeball history).

anyway, it was kinda fun. kinda…

there were some cool people there, about my age, hangin out having drinks. but there were also many older gay guys trapped in the late 80s. it’s hard to describe. but they still dress in really tight clothes, even though they’re pushing 50. oh, they kinda look like an International Male catalog from 1988. but that’s still not describing it properly.

bartender was cool. smiley. really friendly. he carded me, which i thought was weird. (i know i look young, but do you really think that i’m under 21??)

music was 1980s light new wave synth pop: flock of seagulls, omd, pet shop boys. stuff like that.

as thePolice wailed, “every little thing she does is magic”, from the speakers, i finished the last sips of my crown-royal-manhattan-on-the-rocks, and walked out into the midnight breeze.

San Francisco International Film Festival

i worked the SF International FilmFestival opening party last night.

annie was really drunk! how she got that way, i have no idea.

she was talking to almost every guy that moved, regardless of whether he was good looking or not. after a while she wasn’t even forming complete sentences! she was a hot mess.

that’s when i thought: wow, am i this much of an idiot when i drink a lot? (probably).

i’ve been with annie several times when when we’ve both been crazy drunk… so i don’t realize how stupid i’m acting. now i see.

how embarrassing for me!

the event was at the top of the metreon. sexy.

booze sponsored by Grey Goose. excellent.

our damn shrimp&corn fritters were the hit of the night. people were lining up for them. and coming back for them. i don’t get it.

through the course of the evening, i learned that Moose’s has closed, and it’s now a place called Joe and Franks (or something like that). the manager was flirting with annie. she was flirting back. and she decided that she was gonna fuck him. (hello!)

later, she wandered off, and i lost her.

i tried to call her, and i heard her cell phone go off. dammit. it was in our box of stuff from the restaurant that i was carrying.

somehow, she made her way back to the restaurant. and we put her in a cab.

she called me this morning and she doesn’t remember most of it. but apparently, she got lotsa business cards.

probably better that way.

i was off tonight, but i picked up a shift from theBrit. annie’s working, so we can re-hash the evening when i see her at the restaurant tonight.

good times.

fish&farm

thurs 24 apr

[where: 339 taylor, 94102]

it’s a dumb name for a restaurant if you ask me.

HomeSlice and i went there last night. it was… okay.

it’s a small place. it doesn’t seem to have a bar, although i ordered cocktails. i imagine that they share the bar in the hotel lobby. see, it’s part of the mark twain hotel. a little weird. but it didn’t bother me.

decor is strangely nautical. i feel like there are big fish on the wall, fishing rods, the steering column thing that captains steer their ships with, and the chairs are “distressed”. walls are turquiose. weird. but again, i didn’t really mind.

the banquettes are big and leather. it doesn’t match with the rest of the decor–or does it?

started with the Fish&Farm platter which, at the time consisted of: deep fried sardines (?) with some orange sauce; anchovies marinated in vinegary stuff with peppers and something else; some sort of cured meat over kumquats; chicken/duck liver mousse. overall, not bad.

we also had asparagus 2 ways (grilled and marinated/cold/shaved) with a poached sonoma duck egg on top. kick ass.

also a side of ramp. i have no idea what ramp is. HomeSlice tells me that it’s kinda like leeks. i’ll buy that. it totally looked like a cross btw leeks and broccoli rabe. the ramp was sauteed, or grilled. and it had the same orange sauce as the fried sardines.

we also tried the grilled octopus… uh, disappointing. it was described as grilled octopus with frisee. what arrived was a frisee salad with bits of squishy, grilled octopus. big difference.

entree was a berkshire pork chop. HomeSlice felt it was too dry. i thought it was just fine. tasty too. it came over a bed of potatoes au gratin with gouda cheese.

dessert was carrot cake.

it arrived in a mason jar.

a little weird.

but also a little dry.

oh, and their “schtick” is that everything is local, from within 100 miles of the place. uh, tell me, how is salmon from Loch Duarte in Scotland considered “local”? many wines were from italy and other places. again… how is this considered “local”?

i call bullshit.

overall, it’s okay. i don’t think i’d necessarily go again. but maybe…

22 april tuesday

my new favorite show on vh1 is ¡Viva Hollywood!

i’ve only caught it at the gym so far. i don’t really know what it’s about, but it’s filled with muy caliente latinas and latinos.

it’s a reality show about becoming the next telenovela star.

whatever! i totally love it already.

doc\'s clock

MishyMoo was in town on friday. she’s gettin her “green” (susatinable business practices) MBA here in SF, so she visits once a month from NY.

MishyMoo txtd me the details.  an event planned with the kids from school which consisted of: el Farolito for dollar tacos or something, followed by drinks at Doc’s Clock (happy hour till 9pm), and finally to see a band at 12 Galaxies.

none of that stuff was appealing to me. in the least. and for her either. (love her!)

we decided to bag el farolito, and maybe meet the rest of the kids at Doc’s Clock (maybe).

and goddammit, i’m glad we did!

we started at Foreign Cinema. i was there a few weeks ago for Plo’s wedding. i like it there. people are cool, great atmosphere, and oh, the food’s good, too.

we started with cocktails. MishyMoo doesn’t drink wine, like me. (i love her! ) it was only after our first cocktail when we decided what the hell we were gonna eat.

foie gras was more like a torchon. i much prefer my foie gras as an actual piece of duck/goose organ, rather than pulverized and mixed and reshaped into a cylindrical form… but that’s just me. it was still good, but a tasted a little bit too much like unsalted butter.

we had kumamoto and olympia oysters. MishyMoo loves the accoutrements. almost more than the oysters themselves. she makes me laugh. (have i mentioned that i love her?)

blah blah blah. dinner. duck breast and indian mixed grill and more cocktails.

was too early to go to doc’s clock.

we go to the sky bar at medjool.

it’s fucking freezing up there!

but we have more drinks anyway.

it was so damn cold, even with the heat lamps. we went back inside to the loft on the second level.

we finish up, and head to doc’s clock. no kids there yet.

we have a drink.

it only costs $5 (!?)

really?

we have some more.

the kids show up later. (remember, they’re going to see a band at 12 Galaxies that started at 9pm). more kids show up. i meet many of them. and realize that i am older than many of them by about 10 years. (!)

we continue drinking (still amazed that drinks are only $5! and it’s no longer happy hour!)

the rest of the night gets a little hazy.

i think i left around midnight. (?)

met up at Thieves’ tavern for more drinks.

and then i woke up on saturday.

hm.

good times.

foggy beach

Posted in beach, day trip, lunch, restaurant, Zipcar with tags , , , , on Saturday 19 April, 2008 by the Notorious O.S.C.

the other day (thurs), i was finally off. daytrip. checked the weather. 76 at muir beach. i reserve a zipcar and i’m on my way. this time, it was a Mini Convertible. white one. i am so luxurious.

after about an hour of winding roads, we make it to muir beach.

it’s cold. it’s totally foggy. damn.

went up the road a bit, headed to Stinson beach, but thought better of it. headed back down to muir beach, where it was a little less foggy by now, and hung out for about an hour.

a few more quick turns, and more split second decision-making eventually brought us to Tiburon. it’s totally warm and sunny! yeah!

we had drinks at the requisite Sam’s on the harbor. and some food, because we hadn’t eaten anything. really fucking-A expensive!

on the way back to SF, we stopped in Sausalito. and found this place called FISH. tres populaire with the locals. it looks like it was once an airplane hangar, or a fish warehouse, or perhaps it’s recently built, but made to look really old.

also expensive, but good stuff.

we made it back to SF, just in time for dinner at Tinderbox. 3-course prixe fix menu for $29! yeah!

wow, it makes it seem as though all i did on thursday was eat. and in a way, that’s an accurate resprentation of my life.

uh, and i’m sure there’s more to say, but i gotta go to the gym.
